Kazakhstan and Japan set to strengthen economic ties

More Japanese companies have shown interest in working with Kazakhstan in the energy sector, transport, infrastructure, and digitalization of the logistics process, Japan’s Ambassador to Kazakhstan Jun Yamada announced during a meeting with Kazakhstan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alibek Kuantyrov on August 2 in Astana, the Kazakh Foreign Ministry reported.

Emphasizing that Kazakhstan is a strategic partner for Japan, Ambassador Yamada said that the planned opening of direct air service between the two countries in 2026 will strengthen bilateral ties and expand opportunities for business and tourism.

Deputy Minister Kuantyrov pledged the Kazakh government’s support for Japanese companies interested in implementing projects in Kazakhstan, saying that “over 18 years, Japanese companies have invested more than $7.8 billion in Kazakhstan’s economy, and we see great potential for expanding cooperation in key sectors of the economy.”

The meeting took place amid preparations for the “Central Asia plus Japan” Dialogue Summit, which will be held in the Kazakh capital, Astana on August 9 and 10.

Launched in 2004 at Japan’s initiative, the “Central Asia plus Japan” Dialogue aims to foster cooperation between Japan and five Central Asian countries.
