President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev paid an official visit to Malaysia on February 4-5 at the invitation of Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim.
President Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister Ibrahim held talks in a narrow format and with the participation of official delegations.
Following the talks, a Joint Statement on deepening bilateral cooperation towards strategic partnership was signed.
It was noted that the visit of the Prime Minister of Malaysia to Uzbekistan in May last year gave a strong impetus to the development of multifaceted relations between the two countries. The volume of bilateral trade turnover, the number of joint ventures and the frequency of flights are growing.
A decision was made to create a platform for the Strategic Dialogue of Foreign Ministers of the two countries.
Particular attention was paid to interaction in the trade, economic and investment spheres.
In order to increase trade turnover, an agreement was reached on developing an Agreement on Preferential Trade, holding mutual industrial exhibitions, and adopting an Industrial Cooperation Program.
The leaders agreed to declare 2025-2026 a period of innovative development of the Uzbek-Malaysian partnership.
The priority areas of the new model of economic cooperation were defined, including petrochemicals and chemistry, electronics and semiconductor industry, innovative industry, smart agriculture, green energy, and pilgrimage tourism.
In order to support cooperation projects, a special economic zone will be created in the Tashkent region under the management of a leading Malaysian company.
