Kyrgyzstan seeks non-permanent seat in UN Security Council

On April 7, the Permanent Mission of the Kyrgyz Republic to the United Nations hosted a reception in New York City to officially launch a country’s campaign for a non-permanent seat in the UN Security Council for 2027-2028.

The event was led by Zheenbek Kulubaev, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic.

In his opening remarks, Minister Kulubaev outlined the key priorities that Kyrgyzstan aims to pursue as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. He emphasized Kyrgyzstan’s commitment to enhancing international peace and security, promoting preventive diplomacy and mediation, and advocating for the interests of developing nations—specifically mountainous, least developed, and small island states. Minister Kulubaev also reiterated Kyrgyzstan’s strong dedication to disarmament and addressing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

The reception drew representatives from various United Nations agencies and over 150 member states. Guests had the opportunity to sample Kyrgyz national cuisine and enjoy performances of traditional Kyrgyz folklore, providing them with a deeper understanding of the country’s rich cultural heritage.

The reception at the United Nations represented a significant milestone, showcasing the Kyrgyz Republic’s commitment to addressing global challenges and its eagerness to engage actively in the work of the UN Security Council.
