The Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres held a meeting on July 6 in Ashgabat with the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and attended the opening ceremony of the new UN Office building in the Turkmen capital.
The Turkmen president emphasized that this visit is regarded as a qualitatively new stage of interaction to strengthen the large-scale partnership between Turkmenistan and the UN, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reported.
Berdimuhamedov confirmed Turkmenistan’s commitment and readiness to strengthen and expand the strategic dialogue with the United Nations.
In the year of the 300th anniversary of Magtymguly Pyragy, Berdimuhamedov awarded Guterres the first medal established to commemorate the anniversary of the great Turkmen poet and thinker.
Expressing gratitude for the honor, the UN Secretary-General emphasized the relevance of the philosophical views of the great son of the Turkmen people.
Guterres also confirmed his readiness to continue providing full support in promoting important international initiatives of Turkmenistan.
