Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan ban chicken egg imports

Both Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan have imposed temporary restrictions on the import of chicken eggs in efforts to support domestic producers.

Kazakhstan imposed a six-month ban on the import of chicken eggs from April 9.

The Kazakh Ministry of Agriculture said the decision is intended to support domestic producers during spring and summer, when demand for eggs traditionally falls.

This week, the Kyrgyz Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry announced temporary restrictions on the import of chicken eggs. The move is aimed at supporting domestic producers.

According to the ministry, for the second year in a row, Kyrgyzstan has been almost completely self-sufficient in chicken eggs and has also begun to export eggs.

Over the past three months, the country has decreased imports to 1,836,000 eggs and increased exports to 8,800,000 eggs.
