Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov has signed a Comprehensive Development Plan for the Shchuchinsk-Borovoye resort area for 2025–2029.
The Shchuchinsk-Borovoye area (Burabay National Park) is one of the country’s most popular year-round resorts, located in the north of Kazakhstan, 250 kilometers north of the capital, Astana.
Borovoye is the commonly used Russian name of the Burabay National Park, a home to massive pine forests and several lakes. The largest lakes are Borovoye (Burabay), Shchuchye, Ulken Shabakty, Kishi Shabakty, Kotyrkol, and Zhokey.
The plan includes the resort area’s modernization by the creation of year-round tourist facilities, the development of ecological and sports tourism, and the construction of new recreational facilities.
It is planned to organize children’s centers, sports and recreation complexes, and a year-round water park near Lake Kotyrkol. Camping and glamping sites, as well as new tourist routes will appear at Lake Zhokey. Rental stations, boat stations, shoreline infrastructure and beaches will appear at Kishi Shabakty lake.
The plan focuses on developing winter recreation and sports, particularly skiing. New ski resorts with rental of sports equipment will be organized.
To ensure comfortable access to the resort area, transport infrastructure will be built, including multi-level parking lots and food catering outlets.
Implementation of the plan is expected to increase the number of domestic and foreign visitors to the Shchuchinsk-Borovoye area and strengthen Kazakhstan’s position on the tourist map of the Central Asian region.
