Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Russia, Iran seek to increase transportation along North-South route

A two-day meeting of representatives of the Railways of the Islamic Republic of Iran, national railway company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ), Russian Railways, and Turkmenistan’s railway company Turkmendemiryollary ended in Almaty on January 30. 

According to KTZ, the meeting summed up the results of railway cargo transportation across the territory of Kazakhstan via the Bolashak station at the Kazakh-Turkmen border. In 2024, the volume of transportation in this direction amounted to 1.6 million tons of cargo.

Particular attention was paid to increasing the attractiveness of the North-South international transport corridor. The meeting discussed favorable end-to-end tariff conditions for transportation across the territories of Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and to the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas.

The parties expressed their readiness to increase the volume of transportation on this route and further strengthen mutual cooperation.
