On March 4, the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Adylbek Kasymaliyev visited Dushanbe and held talks with Tajikistan’s Prime Minister Kokhir Rasulzoda.

According to the Kyrgyz government’s press service, one of the main issues on the agenda was preparations for the first-ever trilateral summit of the presidents of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan scheduled to take place on March 31 in the Tajik city of Khujand. The summit is expected to become an important event for strengthening regional cooperation.

Kasymaliyev and Rasulzoda discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation, paying special attention to the development of trade and economic ties. The prime ministers reaffirmed a common goal of increasing trade turnover between the countries to $500 million by 2030.

The Kyrgyz side confirmed its readiness to act as an effective link for the supply of Tajik products to the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) market, which besides Kyrgyzstan includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Russia. Kyrgyzstan also expressed interest in studying the Tajik experience in the field of processing agricultural products.
