In 2024, Kyrgyzstan consumed 18.3 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, 1.1 billion kWh more than in 2023, the country’s Ministry of Energy said.
Kyrgyzstan’s hydroelectric power plants generated 12.77 billion kWh and coal-fired thermal power plants produced 1.76 billion kWh. In addition, small private hydroelectric power plants produced 156.2 million kWh, while solar power plants added 0.17 million kWh to the total power mix.
To meet the deficit, Kyrgyzstan imported 3.629 billion kWh of electricity from neighboring countries, 141.7 million kWh more than in 2023.
The ministry also reported that last year, Kyrgyzstan put into operation 8 small hydroelectric power plants that produced a total of 48.84 megawatts of electricity.
Last year, the country began the construction of a 400-megawatt solar power plant, a 100-megawatt wind power plant, and a 25-megawatt small hydroelectric power plant at the Papan Reservoir.
