Kyrgyzstan will send humanitarian aid to Kazakhstan amid floods

The Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic, Akylbek Japarov on April 4 announced that Kyrgyzstan will provide humanitarian aid to neighboring Kazakhstan in response to unprecedented floods caused by abrupt warm weather that led to a mass snowmelt.

Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations has reported that almost 19 thousand people have been evacuated from areas of large-scale floods, while the situation remains difficult in Aktobe, West Kazakhstan, and Kostanay regions.

According to Japarov, after the accident at the Bishkek thermal power plant in February, Kazakhstan extended a helping hand to Kyrgyzstan, and now “we will also send them humanitarian aid, even if they did not ask.”

He added that the Kyrgyz Ministry of Emergency Situations is currently preparing a humanitarian aid batch for Kazakhstan that will consist of Kyrgyz products.

Following an explosion at the Bishkek thermal power plant on February 2 that left parts of the Kyrgyz capital city without hot water and heat for several days, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev ordered to send 2,000 tons of diesel fuel to help Kyrgyzstan overcome the consequences of the accident.
