Number of passengers on trains to Kazakhstan’s Borovoye resort grows 10-fold in 3 years

Kazakhstan’s national railways company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) says that this year, it plans to transport 125 thousand passengers on trains to the country’s Borovoye resort — a record high number over the last three years. Last year, the number of passengers amounted to over 86.2 thousand. Three years ago (in 2020), 10 thousand passengers were transported to the popular resort. For the convenience of passengers, trains run on 14 routes towards Borovoye.

This year, the national railways company has reduced the travel time of the high-speed electric train on the Astana-Borovoye Resort route from 4 hours to 2.5 hours. The electric train runs five times a week: on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

At a government meeting on the development of the country’s tourism industry on June 13, Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized that the natural and historical sites of the Shchuchinsk-Borovoye resort area are Kazakhstan’s unique asset.

“The proximity of Burabay [Borovoye] to Astana ensures a constant influx of residents and guests of the capital there. The number of tourists increases every year. However, the construction of the resort area infrastructure is progressing very slowly. The development plan for the Shchuchinsk-Borovoye resort area, adopted back in 2012, has not been fully implemented. According to the plan, it was supposed to allocate 126 billion tenge, but in fact, 35 billion tenge has been allocated. For more than 10 years, the resort has not been able to install sewer treatment facilities. The Government, the Presidential Administration, and the regional administration must complete these projects as soon as possible,” the President said.
