Presidents of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan hold a summit in Khujand

On March 31, a trilateral meeting was held between the President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, and the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev in the Tajik city of Khujand.

The presidents signed the Treaty between Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan on the junction point of the state borders of the three countries and the Khujand Declaration on Eternal Friendship.

The heads of state emphasized that the signing of these documents symbolizes respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of their countries, and also serves as an example of constructive dialogue and effective cooperation in Central Asia.

The leaders of the three countries also took part in the opening ceremony of a symbolic stele at the junction point of the state borders of Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan, via videoconference.

The stele represents the friendship of the three nations and symbolizes a new era of cooperation, trust and good neighborliness between the countries after the final settlement of border issues.

Kyrgyz-Tajik border agreement

Presidents Japarov and Rahmon signed the Protocol on the exchange of Instruments of Ratification, which legally enshrines the Agreement on the state border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan and creates the necessary conditions for the complete demarcation of the border, the modernization of border infrastructure, and the strengthening of good-neighborliness in the border areas.

CASA-1000 project

Japarov and Rahmon also attended an online ceremony to put into operation the 500 kV Datka-Sughd power transmission line, built as part of the CASA-1000 electricity transmission project.

The leaders noted that this project unites the energy systems of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan and strengthens the energy security of Central Asia.

Both Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan have completed construction work within the CASA-1000 Project, which will export surplus electricity in the summer from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to Afghanistan and Pakistan.
