The Kazakh Ministry of Transport has reported that in 2024, the railway cargo transportation between Kazakhstan and China reached an all-time high of more than 32 million tons.
Kazakhstan’s rail exports to China increased by 1 million tons to 13.7 million tons. The main export items were iron and non-ferrous ore, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, and grain.
Chinese transit cargo traffic through Kazakhstan increased by 19% and amounted to 15.3 million tons.
Chinese container transit to Europe along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) increased by 43%.
This impressive growth largely owed to the opening of a Kazakh terminal in the dry port of Xi’an in China. In 2024, more than 300 container trains passed through this terminal and the Kazakh port of Aktau, a 30-fold increase compared to 2023.
