Tajik leader meets with new president of Iran

On July 30 in Tehran, the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon attended the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian.

During their meeting, President Rahmon invited Masoud Pezeshkian to visit Tajikistan.

Rahmon expressed confidence that Tajikistan and Iran will continue to develop mutually beneficial cooperation on the basis of mutual understanding, respect and trust, the Tajik president’s press service reported.

Both parties expressed satisfaction with the current state of bilateral cooperation, including in political, economic, trade, energy, industrial, transport, agricultural, health, science, education and culture sectors.

The leaders noted a fivefold increase in bilateral trade in recent years.

Both parties expressed interest in expanding cooperation in the water, energy, oil and gas sectors, as well as in the fields of nanotechnology and attracting investments in these areas.

The Tajik leader expressed interest in the effective use of the ports of Bandar Abbas and Chabahar in Iran for the transportation of goods from Tajikistan.

The parties called the abolition of the visa regime for mutual travel between the two countries for up to 30 days an important event and expressed confidence that this step will contribute to the development of tourism and, in general, ties between the peoples of the two countries.

The leaders also discussed strengthening cooperation in the joint fight against modern challenges and threats, including terrorism and extremism, drug trafficking, transnational organized crime and cybercrime.
