Tajikistan may join a green corridor between Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Azerbaijan, Tajik Minister of Energy and Water Resources Daler Juma said during the COP29 summit in Baku.
“This is a very interesting project, although our colleagues have not yet approached us with an official proposal. It is obvious that such initiatives are of great importance for Central Asian countries, such as Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan,” Sputnik Azerbaijan quoted the Tajik minister as saying.
On November 13, on the sidelines of the COP29 summit in Baku, Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev signed an Agreement on Strategic Partnership in the Development and Transmission of Green Energy.
President Aliyev called the signing of the agreement a historic event that opens new opportunities for cooperation between the regions of Central Asia and the Caucasus. “The integration processes, the processes related to transportation, energy, and trade between the regions of Central Asia and the Caucasus allow us to say that these two regions are acting in a synchronized manner in many areas, including in the field of green energy development.”
The Azeri president added that the construction of an electric cable under the Caspian Sea is not only cooperation between “our three countries” [Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan], but also cooperation on a wider scale.
Aliyev also mentioned Azerbaijan’s plans, which are already in the implementation stage, for the construction of a cable from Azerbaijan along the bottom of the Black Sea to Europe. “The feasibility study for this project is nearing completion, so we will connect Central Asia, the Caucasus, Europe, the Caspian, and the Black Seas with a single energy corridor.”
