Tajikistan president outlines tasks for 2025

Speaking at a government meeting on January 17, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon ordered the government to ensure the country’s economic growth of at least 8% in 2025, his press service reported.

Rahmon instructed to focus on transitioning to a green economy, accelerating the digitization of all sectors of the national economy, and expanding non-cash payments.

The president named the effective use of existing capacities, the establishment of new manufacturing enterprises, the production of competitive products with high added value, strengthening the country’s export potential, creating new jobs, and improving the quality of social services among the priority issues for the Tajik government.

The Tajik leader emphasized that although foreign direct investment in Tajikistan exceeded 4.3 billion TJS (over $395 million) in 2024, an increase of 39% compared to 2023, it is still not enough to meet the needs of the country’s economic development.

According to Rahmon, in 2024, Tajikistan produced 22.4 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, 567.6 million kilowatt-hours or 2.6% more than in 2023.

He announced that from May 2027, with the full operation of the country’s largest Rogun hydroelectric power plant and a cascade of hydroelectric power plants on the Vakhsh River, Tajikistan will put an end to its chronic electricity shortages and achieve complete energy independence.
