Turkmenistan and UNDP deepen partnership on rule of law

The Government of Turkmenistan and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on 6 July signed several strategic agreements aimed at strengthening and advancing a long-term partnership in achieving national development priorities, UNDP Turkmenistan reported.

More specifically, UNDP and the Government of Turkmenistan have launched new initiatives to support the country in accelerating progress towards the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development:

The project “Capacity Building for the Central Commission for Holding Elections and Referendums in Turkmenistan”, which aims to support electoral system and strengthen the capacity of Turkmenistan’s election commissions by sharing best international practices and organizing relevant training activities. The project is funded by the Government of Turkmenistan and will be jointly implemented with the Central Commission for Holding Elections and Referendums in Turkmenistan.

The project “Enhancing the Capacity of the Board of Lawyers in Turkmenistan in Ensuring Human Rights”, which focuses on enhancing legal aid provision aligned with international standards. The project is funded by the UK Government and will be jointly implemented with the Presidium of Boards of Lawyers in Ashgabat city.

“As we deepen our partnership with the Government of Turkmenistan, these new initiatives mark another important step towards achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development,” said Mr. Tomica Paovic, UNDP Officer-in-Charge in Turkmenistan. “By strengthening electoral reforms and enhancing the capacity of legal professionals, we are committed to advancing the country’s rule of law agenda and building a more inclusive, just, and sustainable future for all.”
