Uzbekistan: President sums up economic results of first half of 2024

At a government meeting last week, Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the country’s economic results in the first half of this year.

In the first half of 2024, Uzbekistan’s gross domestic product increased by 6.4 percent. Industry grew by 7.8%, construction by 10.1%, services by 12.9%, and agriculture by 3.8%. State budget revenues increased by 14%.

During this period, Uzbekistan created added value worth $45.1 billion, a record high in the country’s history.

Foreign investments amounted to $15.5 billion, 3,000 projects worth $3.5 billion were launched, and 76,000 permanent jobs were created.

Due to the launch of 10 solar and wind power plants with a total capacity of 2.4 gigawatts, 1.6 billion kilowatts of green energy were generated in the first half of the year, which saved half a billion cubic meters of natural gas.

In the first half of this year, Uzbekistan’s exports amounted to $8.7 billion and the exports of fruits, vegetables and food products totaled $910 million. The president set the task to sharply increase the export of processed fruits and vegetables. Currently, 382 projects have been launched to increase storage, sorting and processing capacity. By the end of the year, it is planned to build 10 agro-logistics centers and refrigerated warehouses for 230 thousand tons of produce.

Outlining future tasks, the president ordered the government to ensure employment of 2.4 million people by the end of the year.
