Afghanistan: China to build a residential compound in Kabul

Construction of a residential project called Nilabagh was launched in Kabul on April 7. The project will be implemented by a Chinese company that has invested $71 million in the construction of 1,400 residential apartments in 56 blocks, Afghan broadcaster TOLOnews reported.

The construction project is planned to be completed within 3 years.

“Today, we are present in this grand ceremony of the inauguration of the Nilabagh township by China for Afghanistan to assist in solving the problems of the Afghan people,” said Zhao Xing, the Chinese ambassador to Afghanistan.

At the opening ceremony of the project, the deputy prime minister for economic affairs, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, asked China to work jointly for regional connectivity with Afghanistan, emphasizing that now is the opportunity for investment in the country, and domestic and foreign investors can invest in industries, agriculture, trade, and electricity as well as in construction projects.

“The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan thanks China for the practical start of the Nilabagh project and hopes to work jointly on important issues such as regional connectivity,” he said.

The deputy prime minister for administrative affairs, Abdul Salam Hanafi, said that the Islamic Emirate (Taliban-led Afghan government) wants good and positive relations with the countries of the region and beyond, and that Afghan territory will not be a threat to any country.
