Afghanistan may use Lapiz Lazuli corridor through Turkmenistan

Afghanistan’s acting Foreign Minister during his visit to Turkmenistan said that Afghanistan can now use the Lapis Lazuli Corridor, which would connect Afghan trade to Europe, Afghan broadcaster TOLOnews reported.

Amir Khan Muttaqi discussed a number of trade and diplomatic issues with Turkmenistan officials, including the TAPI gas pipeline project and the railway from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan.

“We discussed important issues such as TAPI, railways and the increase in importing electricity to Afghanistan,” Amir Khan Muttaqi was quoted as saying.

He said that an agreement has been made with Turkmenistan to allow Afghanistan to use the Lapiz Lazuli corridor through Turkmenistan.
Lapiz Lazuli is a major international project that connects Turkmenistan with Europe.

“Both countries want to play an important role in the region. And we can use the Lapiz Lazuli Corridor which passes through Turkmenistan,” said Amir Khan Muttaqi.

According to the statistics of the Afghan ministry of commerce and industry, Afghanistan-Turkmenistan trade in 2023 reached $481 million.
