Speaking in the Mazhilis (the lower house of Kazakhstan’s parliament) on June 26, Deputy Minister of Culture and Information Kanat Iskakov commented on rumors about the alleged existence of foreign biological laboratories in Kazakhstan, Zakon.kz reported.
The issue was raised by Mazhilis deputy Rinat Zaitov, who asked if there are US biological laboratories in Kazakhstan?
“If there are, why don’t we know about them? If not, then why don’t you punish those who spread such misinformation?” the Majilisman asked.
Iskakov replied that the dissemination of such rumors is regarded as an information attack.
“The [Kazakh] Ministry of Foreign Affairs and authorized bodies have several times stated that there are no biological laboratories of the USA or any other country in Kazakhstan. There is a research center that is fully funded by the state, in which domestic specialists work. Therefore, several times government agencies have denied these rumors, or rather fakes. As to bringing to justice, of course, we carry out monitoring, but such fakes are spread by anonymous Telegram channels, including foreign ones,” the Deputy Minister said.
The Speaker of the Mazhilis, Erlan Koshanov, also confirmed that there are no biological laboratories of other countries in Kazakhstan.
