Caspian Sea–Black Sea transport route in the making

On February 10, a four-party working meeting was held in the format of a video conference to discuss the draft intergovernmental Agreement on the establishment of the Caspian Sea–Black Sea international transport route, the Turkmen Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

The meeting was attended by heads and representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and other ministries and departments of Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Romania responsible for the transport sector.

During the meeting, issues related to increasing cargo transportation and stimulating cooperation with all interested parties, including the European Union, were discussed.

The parties noted the expected positive effect in trade relations of all project participants, as well as the importance of involving international organizations in the field of cargo transportation to connect European and Asian markets.

The meeting participants expressed their confidence that the quadripartite intergovernmental Agreement on the establishment of the Caspian Sea-Black Sea international transport route, the signing of which is planned for this year, will make a significant contribution to the development of international freight transport between Central Asia and Europe.

The new transport route stretches from Turkmenistan’s Caspian Sea port of Turkmenbashi to Romania’s Black Sea port of Constanta through Azerbaijan and Georgia.
