China’s BYD launches electric vehicles production in Uzbekistan

On June 27, Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev left his signature on the first electric vehicle that rolled off the assembly line of the joint venture BYD Uzbekistan Factory in the country’s Jizzakh region.

In the first phase of the project, with a cost of $160 million, the new plant will have a production capacity of 50,000 electric vehicles per year.

Equipped with modern equipment and robotic systems from China, the plant currently manufactures the Chazor and Song Plus Champion models, with plans to expand the model range in the coming years.

In the second stage of the project, worth $300 million, the plant will increase its production up to 200 thousand electric vehicles per year, and in the third stage, worth $500 million, up to 500 thousand vehicles.

The level of production localization will also be increased, with plans to launch local production of bumpers, glass, varnished and plastic parts, batteries, electric motors, aluminum parts, tires, and seats.

The plant now employs 1.2 thousand people and plans to increase the number of jobs to 10 thousand.
