Chinese company considering building a $150 million plant in Kazakhstan

Yerzhan Yelekeyev, Chairman of the Management Board of JSC National Company Kazakh Invest, and Sultangali Kinzhakulov, Deputy Chairman of the Investment Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, on April 3 met with the leadership of the Chinese company Zhejiang Sunny Group Co., Ltd. to discuss the possibility of building a plant for the production of cornstarch and thiamulin in Kazakhstan, with subsequent expansion of biologically based products, Kazakh Invest reported. 

Chairman of Zhejiang Sunny Group Co., Ltd. Jianhui Chen noted favorable conditions for the plant’s construction in Kazakhstan, namely the strategic location, availability of land for growing corn, and proximity to local suppliers. According to him, the company is ready to invest $150 million in implementing the project and create 500 permanent jobs.

The products will be exported to European Union countries and Southeast Asia for use in the food, pharmaceutical, chemical, and veterinary industries. The project also provides for the processing of industrial waste, the treatment of industrial wastewater, and the use of installations to minimize emissions into the atmosphere from the combustion of natural gas.

Zhejiang Sunny Group Co., Ltd. produces biopharmaceutical products. The company is one of the few manufacturers in the biopharmaceutical industry with both microbial fermentation and synthesis capabilities.
