Chinese company to implement a solar project in Kazakhstan

On September 24, Chairman of the Management Board of JSC National Company Kazakh Invest Yerzhan Yelekeyev held a meeting with the Chairman of the Board of Directors of China Datang Corporation Ltd. Zou Lei, during which the parties discussed the implementation of the company’s investment project in Kazakhstan.

Zou Lei informed the Kazakh side about the project’s progress for the construction of a 1 GW solar power plant with a 500 GW energy storage system in Kazakhstan, followed by the construction of a 180 km long power transmission line with 5 substations. As part of the project under development, the corporation signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Akimat of the Almaty region. At the moment, to implement the project, a search is underway for a land plot with an area of 2,000 hectares.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to form a working group to study energy initiatives and implement promising investment projects.

Datang Corporation of China is one of the five largest state-owned energy companies. The corporation provides 60% of the electricity supply and 30% of the gas supply of Beijing.
