EDB invested $1.4 billion in Kazakhstan projects in 2024

On February 26, Olzhas Bektenov, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, met with Nikolai Podguzov, Chairman of the Eurasian Development Bank’s (EDB) Management Board, to discuss further cooperation on joint projects.

In 2024, the Bank allocated nearly US $1.4 billion to projects in Kazakhstan. Over the past three years, the Bank’s total investment in the country has reached US $3.6 billion, reaffirming Kazakhstan’s significant share in the EDB’s portfolio.

Podguzov noted that in 2025, the Bank intends to continue financing key strategic projects in energy, transport and industry, with a particular focus on digital technologies and innovative solutions.

This year, the EDB plans to invest in socially significant projects, including the expansion and modernization of combined heat and power plants in Kazakhstan’s central and eastern regions, as well as the construction of a polyethylene plant and the 545 MW Altyn Dala solar power plant.

Prime Minister Bektenov highlighted Kazakhstan’s interest in further expanding cooperation, particularly in the energy and utilities sectors.

“The Eurasian Development Bank is an important partner for Kazakhstan. Last year, the Bank’s investment in our economy grew by nearly 40%, and its loan portfolio in Kazakhstan increased to 63.4% of the total. We are interested in expanding our cooperation with the Bank on mutually beneficial terms. We also intend to unlock the potential of both traditional and emerging areas of cooperation,” emphasized Bektenov.
