Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Japan Yerlan Baudarbek-Kozhatayev on March 5 held a meeting with Hiromasa Nakano, Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan. The Ambassador introduced the current status and prospects of the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR or Middle Corridor) as one of the key multimodal transit corridors connecting Asia and Europe, the Kazakh Foreign Ministry reported.
Minister Nakano noted the TITR’s growing role in international commerce and regional economic development and expressed Japan’s interest to further explore the trade route’s potential. In this context, the issues of infrastructure development and capacity building, management efficiency improvement, and logistics and customs services enhancement within the Middle Corridor were raised.
Ambassador Baudarbek-Kozhatayev informed the Minister of the outcome of meetings with Japanese transport and logistics companies interested in implementing transit container traffic from Japan to Europe through the ports of Aktau and Kuryk, as well as the establishment of logistics centers in Kazakhstan.
In addition, the parties discussed the opening of a direct flight between Kazakhstan and Japan, emphasizing that air service will contribute to strengthening mutual business and tourist ties.
