On January 30 in Almaty, Kazakhstan Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov held talks with the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Adylbek Kasymaliyev to discuss cooperation in trade, economy, water, transport and logistics, energy, cultural and humanitarian spheres, and tourism.
Bektenov noted that bilateral trade for the first 11 months of last year increased and reached $1.6 billion, and said that Kazakhstan is ready to increase exports of 175 items of products worth more than $203 million. Among them are products of petrochemical, food industry, metallurgy, mechanical engineering, pharmaceuticals, and construction materials.
Attention was paid to cooperation in the agricultural sector, which accounts for about 20 percent of mutual trade. Trade turnover in the agro-industrial complex for the first 11 months of 2024 increased by 5.5% and amounted to $313.6 million. Grain exports from Kazakhstan amounted to 40.4 thousand tons, flour – 53.2 thousand tons.
Trade turnover of industrial goods between the countries for the first 11 months of 2024 totaled $985.5 million, up 3.9% from 2023, with exports from Kazakhstan increasing by 13.5%.
The parties also considered cooperation in the water and energy sector, noting that thanks to joint measures, the 2024 irrigation season passed without losses.
An important issue on the bilateral agenda is increasing transport and transit potential. For 9 months of 2024, the volume of export-import cargo transportation by road increased by 16% and amounted to 1.7 million tons.
