On February 19, in Amman, Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held talks with King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein of Jordan.
Tokayev said that the purpose of his visit was to give additional momentum to bilateral relations, friendship, and trade and economic ties. “I believe that we share common views and assessments of the processes taking place in the world. At the same time, we are very interested in strengthening ties at the political level. We consider Jordan a friendly state. We have much in common,” Tokayev emphasized.
King Abdullah II of Jordan noted that the visit of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev opens up broad opportunities for further expanding bilateral political, trade-economic, and investment cooperation.
During the talks, the leaders discussed prospects for developing contacts in key sectors such as trade, investment, industry, agriculture, transport and logistics, tourism, energy, digitalization, and pharmaceuticals.
They noted the importance of developing transport and logistics routes, including within the framework of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.
Special attention was paid to expanding cultural and humanitarian cooperation between the two countries. Currently, around 300 Jordanian citizens are studying at medical universities in Kazakhstan.
As part of Tokayev’s visit, Kazakhstan’s national atomic company Kazatomprom and Jordan Uranium Mining Company (JUMCO) signed a memorandum of understanding and cooperation.
The document focuses on a joint study of uranium exploration and mining projects in Jordan in order to assess their potential for further development, Kazatomprom reported.
“Partnership with JUMCO opens new avenues for international cooperation and strengthens Kazakhstan’s position in the global uranium industry, supporting our strategic goals to expand and efficiently utilise our resource base,” said Meirzhan Yussupov, Chief Executive Officer of Kazatomprom.
“This memorandum aims to develop joint uranium mining projects in Jordan and sets the potential stage for JUMCO to accelerate its pace toward commercial production of uranium in Jordan through cooperation with Kazatomprom,” said Mohammad Al-Shannag, General Manager of JUMCO.
