Kyrgyzstan is sending the second batch of humanitarian aid to neighboring Kazakhstan suffering from unprecedented spring floods, 24.kg news agency reported with reference to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan.
The new humanitarian cargo consists of Kyrgyzstan-made dairy products — 10 thousand liters of kefir, 14.2 thousand packs of sour cream, 10 thousand liters of butter, 10 thousand liters of vegetable oil, 20 tons of Dutch cheese, and 80 tons of skimmed milk powder.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations said the cargo had been collected by the Kyrgyz people and additional funds for the purchase of the products were allocated from the President’s reserve fund.
The first batch of Kyrgyzstan’s humanitarian aid to flood-affected Kazakhstan arrived on April 8. A caravan of 15 trucks delivered 300 tons of sunflower oil, sugar, rice, pasta, confectionery, as well as locally produced mattresses and tents.
As of April 13, 102 thousand people have been evacuated from the flood-affected regions of Kazakhstan, the country’s Ministry of Emergency Situations said.
In his address on April 6, Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev described the situation as “the biggest disaster in terms of its scale and impact in more than 80 years”.
