Kyrgyzstan and German companies have signed an investment agreement on a project to build and operate two floating solar power plants on the surface of the reservoir of Kyrgyzstan’s largest Toktogul hydroelectric power plant.
The agreement was signed on November 26 between the Kyrgyz Cabinet of Ministers and Sonnenenergie, a.s., AB Progressio GmbH, and LTI ReEnergy CleanTech Project Development UG, as part of the visit of Kyrgyzstan’s President Sadyr Japarov to Germany.
The project will build two floating solar power plants with a total capacity of 612 MW. Construction will take up to four years.
Located on the Naryn river, the Toktogul reservoir is the largest reservoir in Kyrgyzstan with a total capacity of 19.5 cubic kilometers of water. Its length is 65 km and its surface area is 284 square kilometers.
During his visit to Berlin, President Japarov held talks with Federal Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz. The leaders discussed issues of bilateral cooperation, including economic interaction, development of a green economy, and implementation of infrastructure and energy projects.
