Kyrgyzstan to modernize airport in Osh

Kyrgyzstan President Sadyr Japarov on February 14 laid the foundation stone for the construction of a new airport complex at the International Airport of Osh, the country’s second-largest city.

According to the presidential press service, the new terminal will have more comfortable conditions for passengers, including a spacious hall, modern check-in areas, a food court, recreation areas, and a parking lot for 650 cars. It will be able to serve more than 5 million passengers per year.

It is planned to increase the number of aircraft parking spaces by 25.

In 2026, the airport will extend the runway.

Japarov emphasized that the International Airport of Osh is Kyrgyzstan’s second in terms of passenger traffic and a key transportation hubs of the entire Fergana Valley region. This airport provides connections not only to the south of Kyrgyzstan, but also with the countries of Central Asia, the Commonwealth of Independent States, and the Middle East.

Today, the airport of Osh is capable of receiving aircraft such as the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737.

The president pointed to the need of the airport’s modernization. Built in 1974, it can no longer fully meet the requirements of the time, given the growing passenger traffic and cargo transportation.

“The construction of a new airport complex is only the beginning of large-scale plans. We intend to expand the airport’s route network, attract new airlines, and increase cargo transportation volumes,” Japarov said.
