Kyrgyzstan’s humanitarian aid arrives in flood-hit Kazakhstan

On April 8, a caravan of 15 trucks with 300 tons of humanitarian aid from Kyrgyzstan arrived in the city of Aktobe in Kazakhstan, where the convoy has been divided between four regions of Kazakhstan hit by unprecedented spring floods, the Kyrgyz Ministry of Emergency Situations reported.

Three trucks with humanitarian cargo headed to the Kostanay region, 4 to the Aktobe region, 4 to the Ural region, and 4 trucks to the Atyrau region.

The convoy with humanitarian aid was organized on behalf of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov. It left Kyrgyzstan on April 6.

The aid includes sunflower oil, sugar, rice, pasta, confectionery, as well as locally produced mattresses and tents.

To date, more than 86 thousand people have been evacuated from the flood-affected regions of Kazakhstan, the country’s Ministry of Emergency Situations said.

In his address on April 6, Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev described the situation as “the biggest disaster in terms of its scale and impact in more than 80 years”.

A state of emergency has been declared in ten regions of the country – Abay, Akmola, Aktobe, Atyrau, West Kazakhstan, Karaganda, Kostanay, Pavlodar, North Kazakhstan, and Ulytau regions.
