A monument dedicated to world-renowned Kyrgyz writer Chingiz Aitmatov was unveiled on February 27 at Villa Grazioli park in Rome.
The opening of the monument was an initiative of the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in Italy as part of efforts to promote and popularize Kyrgyzstan’s cultural heritage.
The marble monument was created by Kyrgyz sculptor Alexey Morozov. It conveys the philosophical depth of Aitmatov’s literary legacy and his reflections on the fate of humanity.
The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Italy, the municipality of Rome, Italian media, representatives from the diplomatic, academic, cultural, and business communities, as well as members of Aitmatov’s family.
Kyrgyzstan’s Ambassador to Italy Taalai Bazarbayev expressed his hope that the monument would serve as a symbol of inspiration for future generations of both Kyrgyz and Italians, reminding them of the importance of preserving cultural heritage and the unifying power of art that bridges different nations and cultures.
