New railway to be built in Kyrgyzstan

A public-private partnership agreement on the “Trans-Eurasian Route” railway project was signed in Bishkek on February 19 between the National Investment Agency under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Kyrgyzstan’s national railway company Kyrgyz Temir Zholu, and US-based consortium All American Rail Group Global Infrastructure Partner LLC, the National Investment Agency announced.

The project will construct a new railway that will connect the city of Karakol in the Issyk-Kul region and the village of Makmal in the Jalal-Abad region of Kyrgyzstan.

This is the first public-private partnership project in the railway sector of Kyrgyzstan, which promises to be an important step in the development of the country’s transport infrastructure.

The Director of the National Investment Agency, Talantbek Imanov said that investments in the project will total about $3 billion, creating new jobs, improving the transport network, and providing economic benefits for the country.

The project will also improve Kyrgyzstan’s transport links with neighboring countries.
