President of Mongolia visits Uzbekistan

On June 24, during his first state visit to Uzbekistan, President of Mongolia Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh held negotiations with President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Tashkent, with the main focus on deepening trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting, the two leaders tasked their governments to establish a joint working group on increasing bilateral trade turnover, work on the issue of opening trading houses in Ulaanbaatar and Tashkent, and prepare for signing an Agreement on Preferential Trade.

The two countries agreed to cooperate in agriculture, with plans to organize large joint livestock complexes in Karakalpakstan, Namangan, and other regions of Uzbekistan.

The parties discussed plans for the import of meat and its processed products from Mongolia and the return supply of poultry meat, fruits and vegetables, and other agricultural products from Uzbekistan.

The Presidents of Uzbekistan and Mongolia also held a joint meeting with representatives of the business communities of the two countries.

“We emphasized that we practically do not use the existing potential and opportunities. In this regard, we have set the task of increasing the volume of mutual trade tenfold in the coming years,” the President of Uzbekistan said, adding that the talks discussed exporting food, fertilizers, medicines, household appliances, plastics and rubber, building materials, finished textiles and shoes to Mongolia, as well as increasing the supply of meat and meat products, leather and wool to Uzbekistan.

An agreement was reached on the adoption of a medium-term cooperation program, primarily in sectors where both economies can effectively complement each other. This is, first of all, the establishment of a partnership in the field of geological exploration, development and processing of raw materials.

The intention was expressed to develop joint clusters for the production of meat products of the Halal standard, the production of finished products with high added value based on the deep processing of wool and leather.
