The construction of the Wakhan road connecting Afghanistan and China will soon be completed, the Afghan minister of rural rehabilitation and development announced during a meeting with the Chinese ambassador in Kabul, Afghan broadcaster TOLOnews reported.
The Wakhan corridor is a narrow strip of land in the Badakhshan province of Afghanistan. The corridor stretches eastward, connecting Afghanistan to China’s Xinjiang region.
The Afghan minister emphasized the significance of the Wakhan road for the economic development between China and Afghanistan, stating that the initial work on this road is progressing rapidly and will be completed in the near future.
China appears to become the major foreign investor in Afghanistan’s economy, looking to invest in Afghan infrastructure and natural resources projects.
