Scania to expand investment activities in Kazakhstan

Yerzhan Yelekeyev, Chairman of the Management Board of National Company Kazakh Invest, on May 13 met with Pascal Zappone, Vice President of the Swedish company Scania CV AB, to discuss the company’s plans to expand investment activities in Kazakhstan, including implementing an investment project to assemble electric generators, Kazakh Invest reported.

Scania manufactures industrial and marine engines, trucks, and buses. In 2023, the company launched truck production in Saran, Karaganda region, with the support of Kazakh Invest and the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan. In the case of launching a new production, electric generators of different capacity ranges will be used in sectors such as construction, MMC, food industry, and agro-industrial sector.

The head of Kazakh Invest supported the plans of Scania for the implementation of the new project.

“In 2023, the share of imports of electric generators to Kazakhstan exceeded the share of exports by more than ten times. Statistics have shown that the development of this industry sector is a priority. In this regard, we welcome the initiative of the Swedish investor to expand its activities in Kazakhstan and are ready to continue to provide a full range of services to support investment projects affecting the development of economic sectors,” Yelekeyev said.

Mr Zappone expressed interest in opening a regional hub of the company for Central Asia in Kazakhstan, which could increase the company’s production capacities and export potential.
