Tajikistan: EU-funded project launches public awareness campaign on HIV and TB prevention

With the support of the European Union and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), GIZ Tajikistan is launching a new campaign as part of the Building a System of Integrated Primary Healthcare in Tajikistan (BaSIC) project aimed at raising awareness about HIV and tuberculosis (TB), the Delegation of the European Union to Tajikistan reported.

This initiative is all about making sure everyone understands these important health issues and knows how to stay healthy.

The project will involve local leaders, health experts, and community members, including district officials, the Center for Healthy Lifestyles, the TB Control Center, the HIV/AIDS Prevention Center, and primary healthcare providers, to tackle the pressing need for education and reducing the stigma surrounding HIV and TB, which are still major health concerns in Tajikistan.

This effort, funded by the European Union and BMZ, highlights their commitment to improving health outcomes in the region. The goal is to help everyone understand the risks and better protect themselves and their family members.

The campaign will include a variety of informative activities. These include engaging educational materials, multimedia content, and community events designed to explain how HIV and TB are transmitted, prevented, and treated. Additionally, it will offer free health screenings, such as chest X-rays and HIV tests, to help detect potential health issues early and reduce the risk of spreading these diseases.

The campaign will start in one district, with plans to expand to 12 more districts in the coming months.
