The President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon on April 23 in Rome met with the President of the Council of Ministers of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, to discuss issues of expanding bilateral ties in the political, economic, trade, cultural, humanitarian, and security spheres.
Both sides expressed interest in expanding cooperation in the fields of hydropower, light, food, metallurgy, mining and chemical industries, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and tourism, the Tajik president’s press service reported.
The sides considered attracting Italian capital for the development of the industrial sector of Tajikistan. The Tajik president emphasized that Tajikistan has ample opportunities and resources for creating joint ventures for processing agricultural and industrial products and increasing their exports to European countries.
The meeting also discussed the opening of direct flights between the two countries, cooperation in the fields of education and healthcare, and the allocation of quotas for Tajik citizens’ study in higher educational institutions of Italy.
Following the negotiations, Tajikistan and Italy signed new cooperation documents, including:
– Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Government of the Italian Republic on Cooperation in Security Matters;
– Operational Memorandum on Drugs between the Drug Control Agency under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Department of Public Security of the Ministry of the Interior of the Italian Republic;
– Memorandum of Understanding between the Committee for Tourism Development under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Ministry of Tourism of the Italian Republic on Cooperation in the field of Tourism;
– Executive Program of the Cultural, Scientific and Technological Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Government of the Italian Republic for 2024-2027;
– Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the field of Sustainable Development between the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security of the Italian Republic;
– Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Government of the Italian Republic on the Exemption of Visa Requirements for Holders of Diplomatic Passports;
– Program of Cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic for 2024-2026.
