Turkish company to develop healthcare infrastructure project in Kazakhstan

On August 28, Chairman of the Investment Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Gabidulla Ospankulov met with representatives of the Turkish group of companies Orhun Medical to discuss the progress of the company’s investment project for the construction of a multidisciplinary clinic in Almaty and the opening of several medical centers in the regions of Kazakhstan.

As reported by Kazakh Invest national company, Orhun Medical is considering concluding an investment Agreement on the project “Improvement of medical services and healthcare infrastructure of the Republic of Kazakhstan.” The project provides for the construction, equipping and operation of a multidisciplinary clinic with 140 beds in Almaty, the opening of 2 new theranostics centers in Aktobe and Almaty, the creation of 5 positron emission tomography centers in Aktobe, Aktau, Karaganda, Kyzylorda and Ust-Kamenogorsk, and the creation of 3 radiology centers in Kostanay, Taldykorgan and Uralsk.

One of the project’s key objectives is to increase the availability of medical services and reduce the outflow of funds from the population of Kazakhstan to foreign countries for medical tourism, the amount of which, according to various estimates, is about $500 million per year.

“Implementing the project will reduce the need for Kazakhstani patients to receive treatment abroad. This will contribute not only to the country’s economic growth but also to the development of the healthcare sector. According to preliminary estimates, the implementation of the project can provide Kazakhstan with an annual inflow of up to $100 million in foreign currency revenue from medical tourism,” Ospankulov said.

In the medium term, Orhun Medical’s new investments in Kazakhstan’s healthcare sector may amount to about $130 million. The implementation of the project will create more than 800 direct and 7,000 indirect new jobs. Orhun Medical has already invested about $30 million in a network of 6 diagnostic centers in Aktau, Almaty, Karaganda, and Taraz, five radiology centers in Aktobe, Almaty, Pavlodar and Semey, and a PET center/CT in Almaty and two tomotherapy centers in Almaty and Karaganda.
