Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan strengthen partnership in all spheres

On April 24, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held talks in Samarkand with the participation of official delegations.

The parties discussed issues of further development and strengthening of Uzbek-Turkmen relations of friendship, good-neighborliness and strategic partnership, noting the dynamic development of multifaceted cooperation in all areas of interaction, including political, inter-parliamentary, trade and economic, transport and communication, cultural and humanitarian spheres.

A fruitful dialogue is maintained at all levels, including meetings of the Intergovernmental Commission, Business Council, Forum of Regions, cultural days, and exhibitions. Last year bilateral trade turnover amounted to $1.1 billion. Trade houses have been established in the capitals, the volumes of cargo transportation are growing. The task has been set to bring the trade volume up to $2 billion in the coming years.

Mutually beneficial cooperation in the spheres of energy, transportation, agriculture, water management and other sectors of economy is developing. The Shavat-Dashoguz cross-border trade zone is jointly established.

An agreement has been reached to hold the third Forum of Regions in Khiva and Days of Turkmen Culture in Uzbekistan this year.

The leaders of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan also exchanged views on the agenda of regional partnership, including preparations for the upcoming summits in the “Central Asia Plus” format and the seventh Consultative Meeting of Central Asian Heads of State in Tashkent.
