Thirty organizations – such as schools, libraries, and universities – in Osh, Jalal-Abad, and Batken regions of Kyrgyzstan on May 22 received a total of over 12,000 English-language books from the United States. These are well-loved books donated from the American people to the Kyrgyz people, the U.S. Embassy in Kyrgyzstan reported.
This project is a culmination of collaborative efforts between the Rotary Club of the Fergana Valley, the Women’s Peace Bank Public Foundation, Osh State University, the U.S. Embassy, and the Kyrgyz government, to include the Presidential Administration, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Social Development, Labor, and Migration, and local government representatives. The Rotary Club of Annapolis’ “Books for International Goodwill” project played a key role in securing the book donations.
There are books for all ages – children to adults – spanning a wide range of subjects and are a valuable English-language learning resource. The donation will empower Kyrgyzstani residents to learn English, explore new knowledge, and foster a spirit of international friendship for generations to come.
“These books are more than just paper and ink,” said U.S. Ambassador to the Kyrgyz Republic Lesslie Viguerie. “They are keys that unlock the world of English language learning and bridges connecting the people of the Kyrgyz Republic and the United States.”
Akylai Karim, the Project Leader at Rotary Club of Fergana Valley and Women Peace Bank, highlighted: “This initiative is a celebration of the Kyrgyz-American friendship, trust, and collaboration. It will have a lasting, positive impact as youth learn English by reading these books and dream big about their future.”
