US Embassy provides IT skills to 400 young people and people with disabilities in Kyrgyzstan

The Academy of Creative Professions, supported by the U.S. Embassy in the Kyrgyz Republic, on December 6 hosted a closing event where fourteen of the most talented participants of Graphic Design and Social Media Marketing (SMM) courses showcased their new skills as part of a competition. A jury of project representatives and private companies selected first-, second-, and third-place winners and awarded them prizes. The Academy of Creative Professions was implemented in partnership with the U.S. Embassy in the Kyrgyz Republic by Public Foundation Jandan Creative.

The Academy of Creative Professions provided free virtual courses on IT skills in Graphic Design and SMM to about 400 young people facing limited job and educational opportunities, 20% of whom were individuals with disabilities.  A panel of experts selected participants through a competitive application process.  The project participants, aged 16 to 35, come from all seven regions of the country.  The course graduates’ new skills will give them the chance to find new career paths and internships in competitive fields.  A total of 14 participants from both courses will participate in the internship program.

The Academy offers courses that help participants build their portfolios, develop skills in writing cover letters and resumes, and prepare for job interviews. The project is inclusive, providing accommodations for people with disabilities, such as sign language interpreters and recorded lessons. Local practitioner instructors lead the courses, while local and American experts in Graphic Design and SMM from private companies provide masterclasses.

Since 2020, 1,730 participants have studied the courses in graphic design, digital marketing, video production, web development, content management, and SMM.
