Uzbekistan and Italy hold business forum in Rome

On May 28, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Bakhtiyor Saidov held a roundtable meeting with about 30 leading Italian companies in Rome to discuss joint projects in energy, textile, transport, IT, engineering, and other areas.

The Uzbek minister underscored the enormous potential of economic and investment cooperation between Uzbekistan and Italy.

Speaking at the meeting, the Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy, Maria Tripodi, said: “This day marks another important step for Italy-Uzbekistan bilateral relations and is to be seen in the framework of the Joint Declaration on Strategic Partnership Relations adopted in 2023”. She highlighted the key role played by business in strengthening relations between the two countries, with an increase in the volume of mutual trade and growing export opportunities from Uzbekistan to the European Union.

The meeting was attended by representatives from SACE, the Italy-Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce, CNA Moda, large business groups such as Todini and Leonardo spa, Intesa San Paolo, and Italian universities such as the Polytechnic of Turin and the University of Pisa.

During the meeting, investment opportunities in various sectors were explored, ranging from pharmaceuticals to textiles, leather, energy, infrastructure and transport, the production of building materials and the agri-food chain.
