Uzbekistan president participates in Uzbek-Chinese Investment Forum

During his state visit to China, Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, together with the Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of Guangdong Province, Huang Kunming, participated in the Uzbek-Chinese Investment Forum in the city of Shenzhen on January 25.

Opening the forum, which brought together heads of government agencies and regions of the two countries and more than 600 representatives of large Chinese companies, Mirziyoyev noted the symbolism of holding the forum in the city of Shenzhen, the innovation capital of China.

The Uzbek president outlined priorities and promising areas of Uzbek-Chinese cooperation, including the expansion of partnerships with Chinese companies with a simplified procedure for attracting funds from Chinese financial institutions for infrastructure development projects, industrial cooperation in priority sectors of the economy, and deep processing of strategic raw materials. Important directions are strategic partnerships in green energy projects and the participation of Chinese companies in Uzbekistan’s privatization program.

The President emphasized that the decisions made during the current visit to expand project financing by leading Chinese banks, open a representative office of the Export-Import Bank of China in Uzbekistan, and create a new investment platform with China’s Silk Road Fund will give a strong impetus to the successful activities of Chinese partners in Uzbekistan.

As a result of the business forum, a solid package of documents was signed on joint projects in the fields of energy, oil and gas, mining, electrical engineering, light industry, mechanical engineering, infrastructure development, agriculture, education, transport and logistics.

The Uzbek leader spoke for holding the Guangdong Investment Forum on an annual basis, and proposed to hold the next forum in the Uzbek city of Samarkand in 2025.
