Uzbekistan is steadily developing its transport network, modernizing the road sector, and building new modern highways.
With the support of the World Bank, the country has developed a project to build an alternative highway connecting the capital, Tashkent, and the city of Andijan. The commissioning of this 314-kilometer highway will reduce travel time between the two cities from 5 to 3 hours, increase the gross domestic product by 2.6%, and decrease road traffic accidents by 40%.
An international tender was announced for this project, attracting interest from many leading foreign companies.
On February 3, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev ordered the Ministry of Transport to construct alternative highways in other high-traffic areas, enhance road convenience and safety, and organize various paid services.
