Uzbekistan to start 24 large projects worth $12.7 billion in electrical, chemical and pharmaceutical industries

On December 25, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a government meeting on the development of the electrical, chemical and pharmaceutical industries in Uzbekistan.

It was stated at the meeting that over the past five years, production in these three industries has increased 2.6-fold, and their share in the country’s industrial sector has reached 7 percent. The production of new products of 231 types has been launched, with exports amounting to $1.6 billion.

This year alone, 39 electrical enterprises worth $163 million were launched, 17 enterprises worth $70 million were launched in the chemical industry, and 57 enterprises worth $87 million were launched in the pharmaceutical industry.

However, there is still a lot of untapped potential in these industries. The saturation of the domestic market with domestic products does not reach 50 percent in the electrical industry, 40 percent in the chemical industry, and 18 percent in pharmaceuticals.

Next year, it is planned to begin implementation of 24 large projects worth $12.7 billion in the three industries. These include expanding the production capacity of polyvinyl chloride at Navoiazot and soda ash in Kungrad, producing olefin from methanol in Karakul, and producing metal sheets for household appliances and cars in Samarkand.
